Salam Hari Raya

First and foremost, I want to wish everybody a Happy Hari Raya and hope all of you are celebrating with your beloved ones.

Nope i'm not going to Paris just yet, my piggy bank is not as fat as it should be, in another way of saying i'm sorry and i can only take new orders for wedding/event starting March 2011 onwards.  For the past one week, all i did was reply emails with not so good news.I felt so guilty every time i had to turn someone down, how i wish i have more hands( actually no, that would be creepy ) so then i can take more orders and work faster and more efficient.

on the other hand, i'm introducing

 " shooting ★ "

as you all know, shooting star does not happen so very often in our life, when it does you're full with awe and suddenly feeling like you are the luckiest person on earth because you just witness one of the wonder of the universe and yada yada yada

the whole point of shooting ★ is that despite my super hectic life, there are time where in between project that i can spare to be your fairy godmother to help make your last minute evening dress, emergency nikah dress fix up or that one sleek dress you've been dreaming of but your mom thinks that it is too simple but at at the end of the day you just realized it is your wedding and not hers.

so how does it works you ask ?

first, keep an eye on the shooting star sign

then, within  48 hours , you have to post a comment on why you deserve your wish to come true. so, you have to be a true cinderella to earn it.

the most deserving person will be announced here and your dress will be designed, tailored magically within the span of time i have
which is most likely a week or two at the most. So be reasonable with your wish people!

so keep your eyes open and do leave some comment of what you think about this alright.

Project emergency

A few weeks before her wedding which was last Christmas, I received an email and a text message from Farrah, saying that her beautiful French laced Kurung was spoiled by gaudy bead work and to make matters worse, even her blue top for her reception was not any better.

At first i hesitated because i was so busy at the time, but thinking if this had happened to me, i would be devastated and cried my eyes out, and no bride deserved such drama ,so i agreed to meet up and see what i can do to help but I'm not promising anything just yet.

After i had a look at the dresses, we discussed on what we can do ,wrote her a list of things to buy and ask her to get them fast.

Inspired by the veil that she bought online, and not wanting to over crowd the lace with another series of beadwork, we settled with pearls of same shades of her lovely lace and a dash of diamontes all over. The result was stunning, i love how you can still see the beautiful pattern of the Chantilly lace with some texture and glam from the pearls and diamontes.

...and what about the blue top you asked, she had an idea of a bolero to replaced the original top she supposed to wear. So we went shopping 3 days before the wedding day and i started sewing right a way. We still had the toile fitting and not forgetting, no sleep for me and finally the bolero was completed.

It feels just like yesterday that we gathered when she came down from JB for work.
That was when she announced that she's getting married. We heard about
it before that from our ever so updated NENEK but we pretended not to know....

Excitements grew, and naturally my question would be "Tahirah, nak berapa pasang?"
In return, Tahirah said she actually had already planned on making a dress with me.
I was ecstatic.

So that was how it all began, way back in early 2009.
From then, it was such a long process, not to mention the long distance from JB to KL.
We twitted, we emailed, we chatted and once in a while she came down.
She contemplated on several looks and designs from Grecian to High Fashion.
Tahirah has a distinct style. One thing I know is she loves jackets/blazers, which she pulls off perfectly. So deciding on the look itself took a while, and finally 3 months before her wedding we agreed on the Balmain inspired blazer with a sort
of kebaya look paired with a pleated skirt. The design of the skirt was not finalised, but we went on to buy the fabric anyway as we already knew what colour and roughly how it should look like.

Then, I was able to start production.
During that period, Tahirah came down just once to try on the toile and never the actual dress.
All in all, the process was hard in areas I least expected specifically the skirt which has a stress level of 20 out of 10. Not to worry, I survived. The skirt turned out to be a grecian like pleated skirt that twists on the bottom and draped on to the back which was a result of several experiment draping. It was just how I wanted it to be, maybe better.

Finally, the night before D-day, Tahirah gets to try on her dress, which was a perfect fit,
however, there was still some twitching here and there that needed to be done. She actually got hold of her dress exactly on the day itself.

Salina's dress was like a small project for me as she needed the dress quickly
and within her budget due to her wedding being brought forward.
So her dress was just a simple kurung, with a full skirt with godet.

I am delighted that recently, I've received a bunch of emails from so many people who are interested in my services. Too many that some emails got moved into spam???!! How did that happen? Lucky I checked and able to retrieve them back.
So here I am writing to say that sadly, I have not the time to reply all of them yet, so if you are one of those people who emailed me and didn't get a reply, I apologize!! I promise I'll get back to you. I've been really busy lately finishing a bunch of wedding dresses, it is really quite the stressful time of the year. So, please don't be discouraged from emailing me. Sometimes (more like everyday) i wish that i have my own super cool digital SLR camera so that i could take my own photos of the dresses i made, especially when it's for the people i love.

My dear friend Azhareena got hitched last August and I'm still waiting for more pictures. Meanwhile, would like to share with all of you this lovely picture of us during the reception at her home in KL.

It has been ages since my last post, but worry not, i'm still alive, kicking and frolicking in my messy studio. I'm pretty busy lately, and hopefully will stay busy. Because only when you are busy, you would want to do other things like updating your dusty blog and starting other projects.

Talking about project, i have one which does not involves other people getting married but still very personal . I'll share more on that in the future.

I received texts many times from her asking whether I make evening dresses. Despite being so busy at the time, I couldn't say no because after so many wedding dresses, this is like a breath of fresh air.

The dress was for her annual dinner, which the theme was 'White'. We went shopping for the fabric together with an idea of a mix of white and bright colourful abstract patterned fabric. The silhouette of the dress was clean and chic, semi-fitted bodice with an A-line skirt finished with a white chiffon sash.

A more intricate work was done on her headscarf with colours that match her skirt which to me brightened the whole look.

The much awaited day was finally approaching, and I was again involved in making her dress, this time for her 'nikah' ceremony. We went fabric shopping together, and she wanted a fabric which is modern and timeless. She opt for this beautiful silk chiffon with silver and brass coloured sequins and Silk Shantung for her skirt which was also used for Hadi's baju melayu.

Thanks to Shaliza, who posted my contact number on her fotopages, I received a phone call all the way from Kota Bharu, Kelantan. I was moved that she was willing to travel all the way from up North to have her wedding dress made by me.

During our discussion, she mentioned that she wanted something different for her 'nikah', which is the only dress she was responsible for. Therefore, for her dress, I did a pleated neckline, silver-sequined sash and mermaid-cut skirt with layers of ruffles and silver-laced trimmings for her veil.

was the sms I received from her. It turned out that she wanted to tell me that she was GETTING MARRIED and asked me to made her a "kurung moden" in 1 week's time. Not only that, she 'pulled a Shaliza' as she was in UK then and chose to get married there.

So to make Dhiraa's 'kurung moden', I got the "baju contoh" from her mother for measurement and successfully finished the dress in time. On the day of the Nikah i got to watch the ceremony on ym, LIVE....technology gotta love it rite.

For Hani's engagement she brought her own fabric which she bought in Jakarta with her own design in mind. Barely knew her then, so during that period, I got the chance to get to know her better as she was soon to become my sister-in-law.

From the original design however, there were some major changes and mistakes. For instance, the skirt and the sleeve was made differently from the design discussed. The end product turned out to be sweet and modern not to mention, she looked lovely in the outfit.

when I received a phone call from Dhira who told me her friend Shaliza was looking for a fashion designer to design her wedding dresses. Hearing that name, the word "celebrity" popped into my mind..lol...she is sort of one as she is a talented photographer, and her work was published on fotopages, and frankly speaking I was an avid visitor of her fotopages.

Thus, working with her was an honour, however it was anything but easy. Namely, discussions or any sort of communication was done through the "net" and through relatives. This was because she was in Oxford and I am here in Malaysia.. hence that was a challenge itself. And to top it all off, she was to return a few weeks before the wedding. Despite all that, it turned out alright, of course with some help from friends and families and Shaliza was happy with the dresses, and in the end all the sleepless nights was worth it.
